In this article, we will explain how to calculate the postage that you must pay when sending couriers, parcels, and packages via India Post.

How to Calculate Postage for India Post

On opening the calculate postage page, you will see three basic types of services:

  • Domestic

  • International 

  • Miscellaneous

First, we will go ahead with Domestic services.

You must first enter the origin and delivery addresses, which must include the pin code, city, and state.

Next, in the article details section, select the type of shipment from the dropdown menu. There are various options to choose from, such as letter, document, parcel, book packet, flat rate parcel, etc.

Then you will have to enter the weight and dimensions (Length, width, and height) of the shipment and click Get Available Services.

Here you will be shown a list of the available services as shown in the screenshot below.

Difference between Parcel, Business Parcel, and Speed Post.

Parcel – Except for prohibited items, anything can be sent in a parcel. In case the parcel is suspected of containing communications that are not permitted, it will be opened in the presence of the addressee or his authorized agent, but each written communication will be billed double the letter shipping fee at the time of delivery. The shipment will be returned to the sender if the addressee refuses to pay the charges, and the charge will not be recovered.

Once you have made your choice, enter the captcha and click Get Price and the calculated postage costs will be displayed. If you opt for additional services such as insurance and proof of delivery, there will be an obvious increase in the cost of postage.

Next, we will move on to International Services.

It is quite similar to domestic services:

You will first have to enter the origin and delivery addresses, Select an article type from the article details tab and enter the weight and dimensions of the postage and click Get Available Services.

Upon doing so, a list of available services will be displayed to you. Select any additional services if you want to opt-in, enter the captcha, and click Get Price. The calculated price will be displayed.

And finally, we will move on to Miscellaneous Services.

This includes specific services such as Attested Copy of Receipt of a Registered Article, Business Reply Permit, Demurrage Charge on VP Articles, Franking Machine, Greeting Card Large size, Greeting Card Small size, Inland Recall Articles, International Recall Articles, Late Fee, Post Bag, Post Box, Postal Identification Card, PostBag and PostBox, VP Inquiry Fee.

 

Select an item from the drop-down menu under the article details tab, enter the captcha, and click get price. The prices of the selected items will be displayed.
